Important dates for local writers (9.22.09)
The 2009 Chattahoochee Valley Writer's Conference is this week and on Saturday afternoon I will lead a workshop on Writing Historical Fiction & Nonfiction.
My session is at 1:40 p.m. and is part of a full day of workshops on a variety of topics important to writers and would-be writers. Topics include Turning Your Family History into a Book, Writing & Selling a Thriller, the Equinox of Poetry, Fiction That Will Sell and Memoir Writing.
Sessions will be held at the Columbus Public Library beginning Thursday with a Nunnally Johnson Film Festival at 10:30 a.m. Poetry readings are scheduled for Thursday evening and on Friday night popular author Jill McCorkle delivers the keynote address at 7 p.m.
Information on registration is available by calling (334) 821-2036 and forms can be found at www.chattwriters.org.
Knowing Write From Wrong is the name of a writing course I'll be teaching for the Columbus State University Continuing Education Department beginning Oct. 6.
The course begins at 6:30 p.m. and continues for five consecutive Tuesdays at the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center on the CSU campus. Cost is $95.
We'll discover stories, turn them into words and then figure out what makes those words effective. It'll be fun. Promise.
