MIRABEAU: Back in the saddle again (4.17.09)

Just when you thought it safe to go back into the water, the warning sounds: Mirabeau is back.

Mirabeau should know better than to apply logic to television news. Because WRBL-TV canned its weekend and mid-day shows, Mirabeau assumed surviving newscasts would improve. Wrong, Mirabeau.

Mirabeau would buy choice seats if someone booked that band from the FreeCreditReport.com commercials — even after people rained on Mirabeau’s parade and told him the singer, Eric Violette, doesn’t speak English.

Mirabeau was surprised when Columbus State University brought men’s basketball coach Doug Branson back for another season. To Mirabeau, Branson should be invited into the Not Ready for Prime Time Players.

Mirabeau assures Synovus stockholders that any rumors that the company's annual meeting on April 23 is being moved to South Carolina are false.

Mirabeau sends get-well wishes to rock legend Leon Russell. Mirabeau was bummed when he heard Leon might not be with Willie Nelson when the Red Headed Stranger plays the Columbus Civic Center this summer. Too bad. Mirabeau would like to see them together one more time.

Mirabeau shakes his head when he sees rental signs hanging outside the Wachovia bank building and the Broadway offices of the Ledger-Enquirer.

Is it just Mirabeau, or do others find themselves needing to go to Peachtree Mall less and less?

Mirabeau didn’t laugh when he read that country music legend George Jones — who’s at the Columbus Civic Center tonight — uses a teleprompter on stage as insurance against forgetting his lyrics. Mirabeau is older than George and he could use a teleprompter to give a cogent answer when  waitresses ask what kind of dressing he wants on his salad.

Mirabeau is impressed with the lineup of speakers announced for the Cunningham Center’s annual leadership forum. It is headlined by Gens. Colin Powell and David Petraeus. Mirabeau reminds the people at CSU that he’s holding that date open in case they need him to speak.

Mirabeau can almost hear the clock ticking outside the Death Row cell of convicted cop killer Troy Davis. Mirabeau hopes the alarm finally sounds this time.

Mirabeau listened to Rhubarb Jones when he was a young DJ at WCLS in Columbus. Mirabeau followed his rush to radio’s big time in Atlanta. Now Mirabeau learns Rhubarb is a visiting lecturer at Kennesaw State University.

Mirabeau checks the linescore of Columbus High baseball games to chart the performance of former Little League World Series star Kyle Carter, a freshman outfielder for Coach Bobby Howard.

Someone told Mirabeau that Columbus Council’s Glenn Davis has been asked to consider a run for the Senate 29 post now held by Seth Harp. The former baseball star hasn’t said yes.
