MIRABEAU: No Golden Arches at Big Volume's (9.2.08)

|
Mirabeau heard the rumors and maybe you did too. Some people around town whisper that Jack Pezold — Ronald McDonald’s favorite businessman — may be buying Bill Heard’s house in Green Island Hills. Mirabeau is told that’s not so, that no Golden Arches are going to shine outside Mr. Big Volume’s $18 million home.
Did you see where some magazine ranked Sarah Palin America’s top hotty governor? Mirabeau checked and found Sonny Perdue came in third.
One-liners aside, Mirabeau suggests you check the website of the Anchorage Daily News to learn more about Sarah Palin. Mirabeau found a blog by reporter Michael Carey particularly useful. Anchorage is a sister newspaper of the Ledger-Enquirer.
For a moment, Mirabeau thought former TV anchor Dick McMichael was comparing Paul Olson and Bert Coker to Thomas Paine, Ben Franklin, Voltaire and Martin Luther King Jr. Writing in his local blog, McMichael did say he thinks the gadflies have a right to speak out at meetings of Columbus Council. Absolutely. Just turn off the television cameras, Mirabeau says.
Mirabeau was impressed by what was said and how many people came to Wynnton United Methodist Church as residents of MidTown rallied to talk about crime in their neighborhoods.
Mirabeau congratulates Sonny Coulter. Phenix City elected him mayor for a fourth time. Mirabeau won’t make any short jokes this time — but he could.
Mirabeau missed the last regular season game of the Catfish in Columbus. So did thousands of other baseball fans. The Catfish won 5-2 then started packing for their new Kentucky home.
Mirabeau thinks the TV newsman who first suggested doing live reports during a hurricane should be punished severely. Mirabeau grabs his remote when one comes on.
Mirabeau checked the calendar and it is Sept. 2. Does this mean Peggy Connell is no longer the interim school superintendent?
